HUVI Upcycled Furniture Series
HUVI is a furniture series crafted entirely from recycled materials. This student project was conducted at Metropolia UAS between October and December 2021, following a design brief provided by the client, Uusix. Uusix is a work rehabilitation unit operating under the City of Helsinki Social Services. The objective was to design a product for their sales, utilizing their own recycled materials, with flexibility for adaptation based on material availability. Additionally, the product needed to be simple to produce by their rehabilitation workers.

Materials
The design incorporated wooden boards to construct the stool legs, repurposed school chair seat bases to create stool seats in varying sizes, and cushions crafted using a rag weaving technique with recycled fabrics. The technique for the cushion was ideated and refined in collaboration with Uusix.

The final products
The final products are stool and ottoman. The product is composed of wooden legs that are attached to wood panel. The pillow is placed between the legs and panel. Product is easy to manufacture and assemble by the Uusix workers. The production is easy to scale according to the recycled material availability.

Responsibilities
The project was carried out in collaboration with Veera Tolonen and Eetu Mäkinen. Most of the key stages, including research, brainstorming, design development, conceptualization of the final product, and creation of the final prototype, were executed as a group. Every visualization presented in this page including 3D modeling, technical drawings, and the sketches are created by me.
